As the weather turns colder, it’s time to bring out the warm drinks. And what could be better than a hot cup of Microwave Spice Tea? This easy-to-make blend is a mix of sweet, tangy, and spicy, and it’s perfect for those chilly winter nights. Read on to learn how to make it.

Ingredients

  • 1 (1 lb. 2 oz.) jar Tang
  • 1 pkg. lemonade Kool Aid with sugar added
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. ground cloves
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 c. instant tea

Mixing Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients together and store in airtight container. When ready to serve, heat 1 cup water in microwave until boiling. Add 3 heaping teaspoons.
  2. Mix to water and stir well.
  3. Great for winter cold and to get the chill out.

The Mixing: Of Sugars and Spices

I began by pouring the Tang, Kool Aid, and sugar into a bowl. It felt like I was back in high school chemistry, except this time, there were no Bunsen burners and the likelihood of causing an explosion was significantly lower. However, the sugar! A mountain of it, enough to make a dentist wince in sympathy pain. And let’s not forget about the ground cloves and cinnamon. These two, let me tell you, they are the little engines that could of the spice world, punching far above their weight class in terms of flavor.

After adding the instant tea, the real fun began. Mixing these ingredients together was like conducting an orchestra, each component playing its part to contribute to the symphony of flavor that was unfolding.

The Storage: An Airtight Situation

Once everything was mixed together, I transferred the blend to an airtight container. This may not sound exciting, but let me tell you, there’s a certain satisfaction in sealing up a container, like you’re locking away a secret recipe for future generations to discover.

Now came the moment of truth: heating up the water. This might sound like a mundane task, but when you’re about to add your homemade tea mix to it, it feels more like a drumroll at a circus performance.
