Party Wieners: The Ultimate Party Snack

There’s something about a good party snack that can make any gathering feel more festive and fun. And when it comes to party snacks, my absolute favorite has to be Party Wieners. These little sausage bites, glazed with a sweet and tangy combination of mustard and grape or apple jelly, are simply irresistible. The best part? They’re super easy to make! All you need is a crock-pot and a few simple ingredients, and you’re good to go. This recipe has been a hit at every party I’ve ever hosted, and I’m sure it will be at yours too. So why do I love this recipe so much? Well, aside from the fact that it’s delicious, it’s also incredibly versatile. You can use any type of small sausage you like, and the sauce can be customized to your taste. Plus, it’s a great make-ahead option for parties. Just pop everything in the crock-pot, and let it do its thing while you get ready for your guests. So if you’re looking for the perfect party snack, look no further. These Party Wieners are sure to be a hit!

Ingredients

  • 1/3 c. mustard
  • 1/2 pkg. Bryan little Smokies (sausage)
  • 2/3 c. grape jelly (can use apple jelly)

Cooking Method

  1. Mix mustard and jelly together.
  2. Place in crock-pot.
  3. Put in little Smokies.
  4. Cook on high until good and hot or you can cook on low all day.

The Great Mustard and Jelly Incident of 2021

Last weekend, I found myself in a bit of a pickle. And by pickle, I mean a sticky situation involving a 1/3 c. of mustard and 2/3 c. of grape jelly. No pickles involved, I promise. I was planning for a little get-together (you know, the kind where you pretend to clean your house but really just shove everything into the closet).

I had promised my friends I’d make my world-renowned Party Wieners. You know the ones. The tiny little Bryan little Smokies that are as addictive as they are adorable.

The Preparations, or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Mustard

The first step was to mix the mustard and grape jelly together. Now, I know what you’re thinking. Mustard and grape jelly? That’s a combination that sounds like it was dreamed up by a five-year-old with unlimited access to the pantry. But trust me, it works. It’s like that unexpected couple at your high school reunion. You don’t understand how they ended up together, but darn, do they seem happy.

Crock-Pot Chronicles

Next, I had to place the mustard-jelly concoction into my trusty crock-pot. You know, the one that’s been with me through thick and thin, from my college days of making ramen to my adult days of… well, still making ramen. But with more ingredients!

The Little Smokies Join the Party

Then came the time to add the Bryan little Smokies. As I dropped them into the pot, I couldn’t help but feel like I was sending them off on their first day of school. “Have fun, kids,” I said. “Make lots of friends with the mustard and jelly.” Yes, I talk to my food. Don’t judge me.

The Wait: A Study in Patience and Snacking

Then came the hardest part. The waiting. I could either cook them on high until they were good and hot or I could torture myself and cook them on low all day. I chose the latter. Why? Because I love the smell of cooking sausages. It’s like a meaty air freshener. And waiting all day gave me the perfect excuse to keep “checking” on them. Aka sneaking a taste or two… or twelve.

The End Result: Mustard, Jelly, and Sausages, Oh My!

Finally, after a day of simmering, the Party Wieners were ready. And let me tell you, they were a hit. The sweet and tangy mix of mustard and grape jelly, coupled with the smokiness of the little sausages, was a party in the mouth. Literally. I think I saw a couple of taste buds doing the Macarena.

So, there you have it. The story of how I survived the Great Mustard and Jelly Incident of 2021. It was a day filled with taste-testing, questionable ingredient combinations, and the occasional chat with my food. But hey, that’s cooking for you. You never know what’s going to happen when you step into that kitchen. But I guarantee, it’s always going to be delicious.
