There’s something incredibly comforting about the scent of apples and cinnamon wafting from the kitchen. It’s a smell that takes me back to my childhood, back to the days when I would watch my grandma make her famous Apple Crunch. This dessert is a classic in my family, passed down from generation to generation, and today, I’m excited to share it with you! The Apple Crunch is a simple yet delightful dish, perfect for those who have a sweet tooth. Made with freshly sliced apples, brown sugar, and a touch of cinnamon, it’s a dessert that’s sure to please. What I love most about this recipe is its simplicity. With just a few ingredients and a couple of steps, you’ll have a dessert that looks and tastes like it came straight from a bakery! So, why not give it a try? I promise, once you’ve tasted this Apple Crunch, you’ll be making it over and over again!

The Prelude to the Apple Crunch

Well, there I was, staring at a bunch of apples. Three medium ones, to be precise. There’s something about the challenge of slicing apples that makes you contemplate your life choices. Why did I, culinary novice, decide to make an Apple Crunch? The answer? Pure, unadulterated ambition (and a sweet tooth that could rival Augustus Gloop’s).

The Sweet Beginnings

To kick things off, my apple friends got a nice, snug layer of brown sugar. It’s like tucking them in for the night, but instead of bedtime stories, they get a sugar bath. I mixed the apples with 1/4 c. of packed brown sugar right there in the baking pan. I set them aside, feeling a sense of accomplishment that was probably unmerited for someone who just mixed fruit with sugar.

Dry Ingredients: A Love Story

Next, came the dry ingredients. You know – flour, white sugar, salt, and cinnamon. I mixed together 3/4 c. flour, 3/4 c. white sugar, 1/4 tsp. salt, and 1/4 tsp. cinnamon. The cinnamon was a nice touch, I thought. Gave it a bit of a festive kick, like reindeer at a summer barbecue.

Egg: The Unlikely Hero

Then, it was the egg’s time to shine. I beat one egg, trying to keep my face as neutral as possible because, let’s be honest, beating an egg is an oddly violent sounding task for such a peaceful activity. Then I mixed it with the flour mixture. It was a beautiful union, like two long-lost friends reuniting on a reality TV show.

The Great Pour

With the egg and flour mixture ready, it was time to spread it over the fruit. This was a delicate operation – like covering a sleeping baby with a blanket, only less cute and more sticky. Once the apples were covered, I poured 1/3 c. melted margarine over the top. It was like watching a buttery waterfall cascade over a mountain of sugary apples. Bliss.

The Oven: A Tale of Heat and Time

Into the oven it went, set at a cozy 375°. It baked for about 45 minutes until it was lightly browned. The kitchen filled with the smell of baking apples and cinnamon. It was like walking into one of those pricey candle stores, only way better because you can actually eat the source of the smell.

The Aftermath: A Warm Goodbye

Once it was out of the oven, there it was, my Apple Crunch in all its glory. It was warm, inviting, and smelled like a hug from your favorite aunt. I served it warm because let’s face it, no one wants a cold hug from their favorite aunt.

So there you have it, the tale of my Apple Crunch experience. It was a journey filled with sugar, spice, and the occasional existential crisis, but in the end, it was all worth it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a date with a plate of Apple Crunch.
